Barefoot in the Park

This is Neil Simon's second play, a beautiful, romantic comedy, Barefoot in the Park. One of the original romantic comedies, it is the story of the start of a marriage, the settling in after the honeymoon, and the getting-to-know each other's foibles and idiosyncrasies.

Corie and Paul have moved into their first home, which is a rather tatty apartment on the fifth floor of a New York brownstone without an elevator. We see them very much in love but having to face the less than desirable apartment, together with a very eccentric neighbour, Mr Velasco. And of course, there is the inevitable mother-in-law - Corie's mother who cannot help herself and just has to come to visit.

The ups and downs of these first weeks of marriage are funny and yet poignant, and, of course, it has a happy ending, despite all the hiccoughs along the way.
